3 Of The Best Lightweight Strollers

When it comes to finding a lightweight stroller there seem to be so many on offer these day it can be hard to know how to narrow it down. From the lightest to the most compact where do you even start? Here are our 3 recommendations of the very best lightweight strollers on the market at the moment.

Babyzen YOYO

If you are a family who travel a lot or want to be able to get around with ease on public transport, then this is the buggy for you. This lightweight compact buggy from Babyzen is absolutely fantastic. Weighing just 6.2kg the YOYO is not just lightweight but when folded it measures just 52 x 44 x 18 cm, which means it is even small enough to go on a plane as hand luggage and fits in the overhead locker. This is a great feature as it means you can keep your little one in their buggy right up until boarding the plane, and it’s an added bonus for anyone who has had the unfortunate experience of an airline damaging their buggy when it is has been placed in the main luggage hold.

There are so many things we love about this buggy, not only does it look really stylish but it is a dream to handle, with 4 wheel suspension the wheels glide along effortlessly on any surface, offering a really smooth ride for both mum and baby. The buggy can be opened and folded in a matter of seconds with just one hand, it can then be carried over your shoulder with the detachable shoulder strap. The YOYO comes with a cozy newborn nest which can be used from birth, which attaches to the stroller chassis allowing young babies to travel facing their parents in the recommended lie-flat position. It is nicely padded with a head support and very comfortable for babies to sleep in and the cozy footmuff keeps them warm when you are out. When they outgrow the nest you can simply replace it with the 6+ seat base to convert it in to a second stage outward facing stroller. The seat base can be adjusted to sit upright or lay back, even when the baby is in the seat, which is great for when they are sleeping. All the fabrics are removable and washable, which is really handy and it has a decent size shopping basket which is very useful.

The YOYO is compatible with most car seats, you just need the adapters and then the car seat just clicks on to the chassis.

Not only is this buggy great for travelling and urban parents but it is ideal for families with limited storage at home or those who have to go up and down lots of flights of stairs, it is also perfect for those with very small cars as it even fits into the boot of a sports car.

Silver Cross POP

This is our favourite of the 3 strollers we put to the test. We feel it ticks all the boxes and offers great value for money. Not only is the POP suitable from birth it is also super stylish, incredibly functional, lightweight and easy to manoeuvre. It is a dream to handle and there is just no comparing this lightweight stroller to your ususal cumbersome and awkward travel systems, infact you will probably find you end up using this stroller more on a day to day basis than your rather expensive travel system.

One of our favourite features is the one-handed manoeuvrability, making steps and corners effortless, even with coffee in hand. The handles are nicely padded, at a comfortable angle and a good shape for hanging shopping bags from. The seat can recline to a fully lie-flat position and is very comfortable and roomy, perfect for a sleeping baby. It also has a taller seat back than ususal and calf support for when your little one becomes a toddler, so it really will last for years. The fully extendable sunshade is a really generous size and always shades baby’s face from the sun, we also like that it zips up neatly when not fully down.

The POP is very lightweight, which really helps when carrying it up and down stairs with baby on board and it is genuinely very easy to collapse and unfold one handed, whilst holding baby. That’s a really critical feature.

We were also very surprised and impressed by the wheel lock. Although the POP isn’t designed to be taken off-road, we took it out on a walk, which turned into an unexpected hike and with the wheel lock on we were able to push it over some pretty wild terrain!

All in all this is a fantastic stroller. Whether you want it as your main stroller or as a secondary stroller to your travel system, we have no doubt you will be using it for years to come.

Chicco Lightway

The cheapest of our 3 options is the Chicco LiteWay, this is a really functional lightweight stroller. Weighing just 7kg, this stroller is extremely agile and easy to drive. It is very comfortable for baby, it has a wide seat and a supportive backrest, which is adjustable to 5 positions including a lie flat position and a completely upright position it can even be adjusted with just one hand. It has comfortable padded shoulder straps and an adjustable leg rest which is handy for toddlers. It also comes with a nice cozy footmuff which can be converted into a leg warmer and a raincover that keeps the entire buggy dry in wet weather, although it is a little fiddly to get on, the detachable canopy also has an extendable sun shade, which is really handy in the Summer. There is an ample size storage basket, which is big enough for your changing bag and some groceries.

The buggy is really nice to push and has held up on many different terrains. It has good suspension for a lightweight buggy. There are two interchangeable settings for the wheels, Swivel and Fixed. The buggy feels very sturdy when pushing it, which is not always the case with lightweight buggies, which can often feel a bit flimsy, but this one definitely feels more sturdy than others.

The Lightway has an umbrella folding mechanism so it is really easy to fold and store upright or on its side. When folded it is very light and can be carried in one arm, leaving your other arm free to carry your child.

For the price and the amount of accessories that come with this stroller it is definitely good value for money
